False nails... pros and cons ?????

i'm reffering to those special kind of nails aplied in saloons... do they damage your nails? can somebody tell me how the procedure goes, wht does it involve and for how long can they last?? what happens when ur nails grow?False nails... pros and cons ?????
i am a licensed nail tech and here are my answers for your particular questions:

Yes, fake nails(acrylic, gel or even wraps) usually will cause some damage to the natural nail. In order for the ';fake'; nails to adhere to your nail plate; the top layer of your natural nail must be filed down. This removes the ';oily'; layer from the nail and evens out any ridges and unevenness which can cause lifting.

the procedures vary depending on which type of nails you decide to go with. the procedure itself usually takes around 1 hour from start to finish and u can expect to see your nail tech about every two weeks for routine fill-ins possibly 3 depending on how fast your natural nails grow and for repairs and replacements when needed. with good maintenance your false nails can last as long as you like them.

if and when you decide to remove the fake nails...

you should see your nail tech to remove them with as little damage as possible. this is usually where the most damage occurs. as your natural nails begin to grow out you will probably notice a ';line'; or slight indentation growing from the cuticle- up. This is from that top layer being removed and the new growth has it intact. you will notice that it goes up as your nail grows and with time it will grow all the way off.False nails... pros and cons ?????
pros ...cute..

Cons..annoying after a while and can start to destroy your nails..with all the chemicals they use.
Con - they look fake

Pro- can't think of one.
I have had them for about five years. I delayed getting them because I thought they would ruin my nails and be too expensive, but since I began, I've loved them. Mine are acrylic.

I have them done every 3 weeks. The first time you have them done, the salon will put on a whole new set. Then in 2-3 weeks, you come back in to have the back (the part nearest your first knuckle) filled in with acrylic. ($15.00 where I go) After another 2-3 weeks, you go in to have the tip redone as well as the back. ($20.00 where I go) They file the tip from the top and the front, then fill in with white, since I always get french manicure. So it is $35.00 every 6 weeks, plus tips of course.

They haven't damaged my nails, though if I took them off, my own nails would be thin until they grew out.

Good luck!
The superglue-like stuff damages your nails.

No to menton how it can bond your nail to your skin. The bondage wares off in like a day.

What people do s, they put that superglue-y stuff on the false nsils, then apply it to your real nail (if the size is right), then wait for it to dry.
They look beautiful. Yes they damage your real nails, but they grown back to normal once the fake nails are removed. So the damage isn't permanent. They use nail tools %26amp; acrylic to attach the nails. They last until you pick them off (ouch) or until you let them grow off. When your nails grow, they need filled in. It doesn't hurt. Just try it. The whole procedure is hard to explain.
Ugh! I used to be the queen of acryllics as well as Solar nails. They first sand your nail down and apply the nail to it with an acryllic overlay. They can either paint your nail or do a french manicure. You nail will grow underneath. About every two weeks you will go and get a fill..where they take the polish off sand it down and fill in where the growth has taken place. Sometimes they will cut the acryllic if you feel like the nail is too long. The draw back is when you take them off. You nails are weak, brittle, and will shred. They may be long but most of the time you will have to start back with really short nails. It will take about 2 months for them to go back to their normal stage. I used to do them, but my nails seem so damaged now, that I will just stay short and healthy.
they fall off, so u really have to treat them with care. i wouldn't get them, i personally think they are ugly......(sorry!)
False nails are applied many different ways. I will tell you this, I have seen so many women who have worn them, and their nails underneath become paperthin. They have to wear down the nail underneath to get the top fake nail attached.

If you have never had real long nails, or fake ones, it takes forever to get used to.

But the biggest thing is the affect that it has on your real nails.

It damages them gravely.
